Fix Zones

To improve positioning performance, it is important to ensure that the zone edges marked in the project file are drawn accurately, so that no unwanted spaces are left between zones and that adjacent zones do not overlap. The Fix Zones feature enabled users to easily remove spaces or overlaps left between the edges of zones in the QSP and to straighten the edges of zones to be either horizontal or vertical so that no accidental overlaps occur between two zones.

The feature can be applied to either a single zone, to straighten up its edges, or to multiple zones at the same time to ensure that the zone edges align nicely. Follow the steps below to use it.

Fix Zone Edges for One Zone

  1. Open the project in the QSP.
  2. In the object tree on the left, select the zone that you want to fix the edge.
  3. In the panel on the right, click the Straighten lines button.

  4. In the window that opens, use the slider to straighten the polygon edge and click Apply.

Tip: The text below the slider lists the actions that the QSP will take when you click on the Apply button. For example:
    • Splitting X and straightening X lines - Shows you how many zone edges will be affected by the change.
    • Deleting X zones and X tracking areas because they are too small - Tells you if the fix zones tool has identified any invalid zones or tracking areas that have no size (i.e. a zone that isn't two dimensional in shape and doesn't cover any surface area in the map view) that will be removed from the project file when you apply the changes. Zones and tracking areas are both objects that define an area where tags can move and so must cover an area of the map view.

The same proposed changes will also be visible in the map view in the background.

This information can be used to validate that the applied change matches the desired outcome.

Fix Zone Edges for Multiple Zones

  1. Open the project in the QSP.
  2. In the object tree on the left, select the zones that you want to fix the edge for.

In the panel on the right, click the Fix zones button.

  3. In the window that opens, use the sliders to adjust the polygon edges and click Apply.
