Network Troubleshooting

Cabling

  • Check that the cabling tips described in the Networking Basics section have been applied.
  • Verify all cabling connections using a cable tester, such as the Fluke MicroScanner 2, which can acquire and troubleshoot cable length, wiremap, cable ID, and distance to fault.

  • Verify any fiber uplinks using a fiber tester, such as the Fluke Pro Optical Fiber Tester

  • Ensure all connections, at Locators, switches, patch panels etc, are properly terminated and firmly connected.

Switching

  • Ensure that all switch ports are on with the PoE enabled.
  • When using VLANs to segregate traffic on a switch, verify that all applicable ports are assigned with the appropriate VLAN that has been created for the Quuppa infrastructure.
  • Ensure that all VLANs have been trunked through the correct port to any upstream switches.

DHCP

  • Ensure that the DHCP scope used by the Quuppa infrastructure does not conflict with any existing DHCP scopes or currently used static IP addresses.
  • When using DHCP options, verify that DHCP option 43, VSI (Vendor Specific Information), is configured with the QPE's IP address.
  • When using DHCP options, also verify that DHCP option 60, VCI (Vendor Class Identifier), is set to "Quuppa LD".

Firewall

  • Ensure that all applicable ports are open on needed devices and firewalls within the network - e.g. server, switches, routers. For more information about the required ports, please see the Communication Ports section of this guide.
Note: Some corporate computers and networks may run a firewall application locally and port(s) will also need to be opened at the machine level. In cases which that cannot be accomplished, we advise you to run the Quuppa applications on a system not restricted by corporate firewall policies.
